THE MAKING OF A Home The story of Sandy and Sarah (and Lucy and Clementine) THE STORY RECENT COMMENTS OTHER STUFF

With great power comes great responsibility

Where in this case power = power to buy goods, and responsibility = responsibility to decorate tastefully. The first result of this new paradigm can be seen in the picture below. (Click to enlarge.)

Our first cabinet

Thanks to the nice antiques dealer at the Grayslake Flea Market, who played coy while hemming and hawing over our totally resonable offer just because it was his responsibility to do so, we now have our very first china cabinet.

It should be noted that I have a horrible visceral fear of haggling. I have no idea where it came from, I only know that the idea of talking this guy (who you can see in the Hawaiian shirt on the far left of the photo) into dropping the price made me want to cry. Luckily I came prepared. Between Sandy and my mom, I had a dream team assembled. I cowered behind the guy’s truck and let my loved ones do all the tough work. Thank you, loved ones, for enabling my neurotic anxieties.

Please do not blame us for that shirt. It is no more Hawaiian than your so-called Punch. WooooOOOooooOOO!
