Nothing happens in this two-minute video, except that’s just the point.
Up until yesterday, Ezra would stand only if he was distracted by something he was holding, and only for five or ten seconds at a time. The moment he noticed what was going on, his brain said “That ain’t right!” and got his body to the floor, stat.
Saturday was forecasted to be beautiful, so we went with some friends to Crown Fountain in Millennium Park. I plopped Ezra down in the middle of the fountain, standing, and backed away. And he stood. For at least two minutes. Shattering his old record by a factor of four, at least. Not since my days at mime camp have I been so excited to watch someone stand completely still for so long.

— May 2 / 21:20Can’t believe a kid I haven’t met yet could crack me up so much just by standing.

— May 6 / 15:02This is FAN-bleeping-TASTIC! What a beautiful setting to stand for the first time. I wonder what he is thinking … “OK, what happens if I bend my knees? Whoa! I’m still standing!”
And Sandy, I think it’s wonderful that you are already pushing him to walk toward you. It was definitely worth a shot.

— May 6 / 16:42Delightful. How magical that fountain must feel to Ezra – so much fun, so much to process, definitely worth standing up for! and that little splash when he decided to test the water. Precious. Love, Aunt Phyllis
